This is not an Orion-sponsored event, but we thought that Orion readers would like to know about this gathering, sponsored by The Thomas Berry Foundation and the Forum on Religion and Ecology at Yale:
Family, friends, and colleagues will come together at the Cathedral of St. John the Divine in New York City this day to honor the memory and celebrate the life of Thomas Berry. Tributes will be offered by Paul Winter, Mary Evelyn Tucker, John Grim, Brian Swimme, Wm. Theodore de Bary, Brian Brown, and Sr. Miriam MacGillis.
The Memorial Service will be preceded by the presentation of the Thomas Berry Award. This award was initiated in 1998 to honor the legacy of Thomas Berry. This year the award will be given to Martin S. Kaplan, who helped to set up the Thomas Berry Foundation and has been an extraordinary supporter of Thomas' vision.
The Award presentation will begin at 2 p.m. The Memorial Service will begin at 4 p.m. A reception will follow the service.
The Award presentation, Memorial service, and reception are free and open to the public.
