Description
Forum on the future of the New Zealand economy
Hosted by Unitec Department Management & Marketing
Award winning financial journalist and adjunct Professor at Unitec, Rod Oram will lead a series of panel discussions, on the future of the New Zealand economy, that will be hosted by the Department of Management & Marketing.
The events are part of the Department of Management & Marketing's "Forum for the Future" which has been established to help stimulate discussion about New Zealand's opportunities and challenges in the global economy.
The National government has set itself a goal for the New Zealand economy of catching up with Australia's by 2025. It has formed a task force, led by Don Brash, the former Reserve Bank Governor and National party leader, to advise it. The Forum for the Future is designed to assist the government in reaching this goal.
Rod Oram and his Unitec Management colleagues have identified a range of major topics for the Forum. Each topic will be tackled in a series of three 90-minute panel-style discussions on each chosen topic with an invited audience, bringing together sector leaders, academics and students.
Each three-event programme will be run on three consecutive Thursday evenings at Unitec's Mount Albert campus in Auckland.
The inaugural programme will commence in October with three key dates:
Date and Time Topic
Thursday, October 08 from 6.30pm - 8.00pm Consider the Challenge - how big is the task and how will we do it?
Thursday, October 15 from 6.30pm - 8.00pm Consider the Dairy sector's strategic response
Thursday, October 22 from 6.30pm - 8.00pm Explore the Tourism sector's strategic response
Each session will involve two sector leaders, an academic and a student, with Rod Oram as facilitator.
