Description
This seminar will be taught by YMAA Instructors Nicholas Yang and Ben Warner.
The saber is a broadsword and is considered the root and foundation of all short weapons. About 60-70% of saber techniques are shared with any other short weapon. This seminar will cover basic saber strategies, techniques, handling, and footwork. The traditional Long Fist sequence Qi Xing Dao (Seven Star Saber) will also be taught.
Saber should be one of the first weapons learned for anybody who is interested in learning a short weapon. From the techniques taught in this seminar, students will establish a proper weapons training foundation. Topics covered will include understanding the saber, selected techniques and exercises, solo practice, 2-person practice, stances, and correct body structure. This seminar will include the first YMAA Long Fist saber sequence, Qi Xing Dao (Seven Star Saber).
The focus of this seminar will be on developing strong and proper control, familiarity, and command of the saber. As with any martial art, a proper training foundation will help you succeed in the rest of your practice. It is important to build good habits early on in the training process instead of trying to break bad ones later. Be sure to practice regularly.
