Please join us for a screening of the award-winning PBS documentary, “In the Family” and a panel discussion surrounding the ACLU’s lawsuit challenging patents on genes linked to breast and ovarian cancer. At the core of this case - as the film and panel discussion will highlight - are enormous first amendment implications in the way gene patents stifle and obstruct scientific freedom, as well as their impact on women’s lives and health.

In the Family (http://www.inthefamilyfilm.com) is a documentary film about predicting breast and ovarian cancer, the consequences of knowing, and the women who live with the risk. It had its broadcast premiere on the award-winning PBS documentary series P.O.V. in Octo­ber 2008. This event is a collaboration with Kartemquin Films and P.O.V. and is co-sponsored by the American Civil Liberties Union and the Public Patent Foundation (PUBPAT).
