The Girls Fight Back program is a 90-minute, interactive seminar which serves as a great introduction to fighting back against violence. Our unique presentation approach combines cutting-edge safety training, empowerment, simple techniqes and even comedy. The program is delivered in a fun, practical and down-to-earth approach to safety with an emphasis on encouraging women to seek out further self-defense training.
The program begins by GFB Founder, Erin Weed, sharing the story of Shannon McNamara’s life and murder. This tragic event ultimately inspired Girls Fight Back. She then teaches attendees about the value of intuition and how to reduce the risk of being a target by being a “bad victim.” Our GFB 3-Step formula for effective self defense is explained, and then comes the fun part! The women are then taught self-defense techniques while standing up, on the ground (if space is available) and finally improvised weapons that most women have in their purse or backpack. We discuss violent situations that may be committed by either someone they know or a complete stranger. The GFB program is fully interactive but teaches no-contact self-defense. Each attendee has an “imaginary mugger” and tries out the moves in the air, as opposed to striking pads or mock assailants. (This allows us to give the basics, but still present to large crowds.) We encourage all attendees to learn more by taking a self-defense class after seeing the GFB seminar.
