Description

WHAT: House dance workshop with Byron Cox, founder of Crucial Session, the House Dance Project, and www.housedancer.com.

HOUSE DANCE:
House dance is a fusion of movements that includes Capoeira, Tap, Jazz, and Salsa (to name a few) and philosophies of consciousness, love, and interaction. The dance emerged as a feeling before a style; it places one’s individual relationship to the music at the forefront of technique, instead of creating a technique confined to defined movements. There are many styles and sub-styles of house dance, but they are all linked by the philosophical foundation that emphasizes consciousness to allow maximum musical receptivity, engaging in dialogue with others through energy awareness and a non-judgmental mind-set. The musical transcendence that results can be termed as ergotrophic conscious arousal.
This workshop will examine a few of the styles and sub-styles that characterize house dance, most importantly the jack—a repetitive wavelike motion that pulses through the body to gather energy on the base and release it on the high hat. In addition to engaging in the physicality of house dance, the history and philosophy of house dance will also be taught.
Dancers and non-dancers are encouraged to come. ALL ARE WELCOME!!
