Join Soundtrack at Chapter Arts Centre for a special Hammer Horror event! The Music of Hammer Horror will see author and Hammer historian Marcus Hearn in conversation with fellow author and Hammer expert Dr. David Huckvale, as they delve in to the history of the men whose chilling scores raised the hairs on the necks of a generation of classic horror fans.
Following the ‘In Conversation’, there will be a double bill of two classic Hammer titles, chosen specifically for their fantastic soundtracks by our hosts for the evening. Val Guest’s 1955 sci-fi horror ‘The Quatermass Xperiment’ which features a fantastic score by James Bernard, will be followed by occult thriller ‘To The Devil A Daughter’, starring Christopher Lee, Honor Blackman, Nastassja Kinski and Richard Widmark, with a score from Paul Glass. These two titles are considered the first and last Hammer Horror movies.

The Quatermass Xperiment
Dir: Val Guest: 1955: Starring Gordon Jackson, Brian Donlevy, Jack Warner
A rocket crash-lands in England after a flight of more than 57 hours into deep space. The design of Professor Bernard Quatermass, a forceful, misanthropic American scientist, the Q-1 had three astronauts aboard when it left Earth, but only one of them is on board upon landing,. Even more baffling, the spacesuits of the other two men are still aboard the wrecked ship and are still interlocked, as though they were in them when whatever transpired.
As the survivor’s condition worsens, Quatermass soon realizes that the astronaut is little more than the shell of a man, masking an invading alien life form that can literally draw the life out of any living thing that it touches. The manhunt turns into a fight for survival as the creature continues to kill and mutate, threatening to release spores into the air and spread itself by the millions throughout the Earth.
To The Devil A Daughter
Dir: Peter Sykes: 1976: Starring Christopher Lee, Richard Widmark, Nastassja Kinski
Christopher Lee stars in this Hammer production as Father Michael, an excommunicated priest who decides to save the world from its decadence by teaming up with Satan. Having entered into a pact with the Dark One, Father Michael has agreed to secure a beautiful young virgin (Nastassja Kinski) to become Satan's child-bride. However, when an occult writer (Richard Widmark) discovers the evil Father's plan, he lies his way into Father Michael's cult to save the young girl from bearing Satan's spawn. Mr. Lee turns in one of his finest performances in this controversial shocker that turned out to be Hammer's final horror film
