Gender Justice Week will have a variety of events from November 4 to November 20.

All students, faculty and staff are invited to participate in the Third Annual Gender Justice Month. This year’s theme is Gender Issues in the Pacific Islands. Events will include the film premiere of “Trans/Formed” on Tuesday, November 10th and the month’s signature panel discussion on Thursday, November 19th. The panel will feature fa’afafine identified individuals from American Samoa as well as transgendered people from the Los Angeles area. Sponsored by the Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Transgender Assembly (GLBTA), the week’s events promote issues of gender identity and expression and help develop a network of transgender allies.

A New Orleans-style funeral, full of jazz and charisma, will lead us around the march route until we finish in front of "The Black Cat"/Le BarCito, where WE FOUGHT BACK against police raids even before Stonewall!

Ally Discussion: International Student Reflections

LGBTQ College Mixer - FREE Event

Nov. 8, 2PM, L.A. Gay & Lesbian Center (1125 N. McCadden Place, Hollywood) (2pm-2:30pm - networking session for student leaders)
Have you heard about the LGBTQ College Mixer, presented by the Young Professionals Council and Lifeworks of the LA Gay and Lesbian Center, and the UCLA and USC LGBT Student Resource Centers? This is the first time these partners have come together to sponsor a LGBT college-only mixer. We are inviting college students from throughout Southern California to promote inter-campus unity among LGBTQ collegians and connect those students with a broad array of community resources. Admission to the event is free, and there will be food and beverages provided, in addition to some great raffle prizes from American Apparel, Target, and Starbucks.

This film is a documentary that looks into the lives of the male and female transgender community living in Los Angeles. The film follows the lives of four transgender women of different ethnicities and backgrounds. Cleo Valente, the director of the film will be joining us for a discussion following the screening. Pedro Almodovar's 13th feature is one of his many masterworks. The film tells the story of Manuela (Cecilia Roth), a nurse in the organ transplant unit of Ramon y Cajal Hospital in Madrid. Not just a film about death and secrets, but an exploration into the essence of woman.

Panel Discussion: Gender Identity in the Pacific Islands & the U.S.

Listen to our fa’afafine speakers Dan Taulapapa McMullin and Victor Rodger along with transgender speakers to discuss the gender culture in the Pacific Islands compared to the US. Food will be provided.

11th Annual Transgender Day of Remembrance

Nov. 20, 6PM, West Hollywood
The Transgender Day of Remembrance began in 1999 as a candlelight vigil in San Francisco to honor Rita Hester, a transgender woman murdered in 1998. The memorial continues to be staged in hundreds of cities and more than a dozen countries around the world.
