Description
The Libertarian National Committee (LNC) will host a press conference on July 21st, following the first day of its quarterly board meeting in Pittsburgh. The board meeting, which is to be held on July 21 and 22, will discuss the progress and future goals of the Libertarian Party. The LNC will also be visiting Pittsburgh to assess the city's suitability for the 2010 or 2012 Libertarian National Conventions.
National Chairman William Redpath will deliver a few words to the press and answer questions about the possibility of Pittsburgh serving as a host city for the Libertarian convention, as well as field questions about the recent successes of the LP.
"We're excited to be coming into Pittsburgh this weekend, especially to check its viability as a place for our national convention in a few years," says Shane Cory, Executive Director of the LNC.
The LP National Convention may attract more than 1,000 people including delegates with families and guests to the city of Pittsburgh.
The press conference will be held at 5:15 p.m. at the Hilton Pittsburgh at Three Rivers in the Forbes Room. Light refreshments will be served before the press conference begins. National Chairman William Redpath will share a few words about the Libertarian Party and then take questions and comment on the viability of Pittsburgh as a possible convention location. Also available for comment will be Dr. Jim Lark, a regional representative, as well as former Congressman Bob Barr who also serves on the LNC Board of Directors.
"We felt the press would be very interested in the potential for Pittsburgh to host our national convention," says LNC Media Coordinator, Andrew Davis. "This press conference should give ample opportunity for the media to ask questions regarding our national convention, or ask about the party itself. The Libertarian Party is creating a lot of buzz in the political arena as it gets closer to the 2008 elections. This is shaping up to be the year of the third party."
The Libertarian Party recently reported an increase in membership of 18 percent since January of this year, while Democrats and Republicans experienced a drop in party affiliation numbers for the past three months, according to a Rasmussen poll conducted in May.
