"The Shuffle started from a conversation I had with Gale Burns about reading series in London. We were discussing the fact that most series seem themed – they were for poets of a certain age, or a certain style or were open mics or were mainly for well-known poets with books out. Why wasn't there something for those poets from in and near London who didn't suit these categories? And so I roped in Amy Key and Jacqueline Saphra and after a great deal of work (90% of which involved trying to find a name for the night) we started The Shuffle. I hosted the first night and then passed organisation and poet selection over to them. It has been running for a year now and the poems in this pamphlet show the diversity of the poetry which can be witnessed at the monthly readings. Diversity and quality from poets who can broadly be described as working in performance, mainstream and innovative traditions and who have ranged in age from late teens to eighty-something."
