Pre-Audition WORKSHOP Tuesday, SEPT 9th, 2008
AUDITION DAY Tuesday, SEPT 16th, 2008
EVERYONE (auditionees, family and friends) IS INVITED TO ATTEND the AUDITION VIEWING on SEPT 16th! COME OUT AND SUPPORT our DANCE COMMUNITY!
AUDITION BREAKDOWN:
Auditions will happen in three stages this year. IT IS HIGHLY REQUIRED for all AUDITIONEES to attend the SEPT 9th PreAudition Workshop on TUESDAY to learn the pieces to perform on SEPT 16th-AUDITION DAY at 4PM. Everyone will have a week after SEPT 9th (7DAYS!) to clean the audition pieces and present them on SEPT 16th in STAGE 2 and/or STAGE 1.
FIRST STAGE
(MANDATORY FOR ALL PAST AND CURRENT MEMBERS. Optional for NEW INCOMING members)
Auditionees entering this stage will have to group in mini teams of two or three and present the choreography with formations and transitions. Mini teams will be grouped amongst the AUDITIONEES themselves and will meet on their own time to rehearse before presenting on SEPT 16 for STAGE 1. The mini teams will also have to provide choreography for the 4th mystery song of the master mix (look below for the master mix link). Themes and costumes are not mandatory but are HIGHLY encouraged!
SECOND STAGE.
(ALL AUDITIONEES — new, current, and past returning — are required to participate in this stage).
AUDITIONEES will be called into random groups by number and will perform all the audition pieces taught from the SEPT 9th workshop. This number will be randomly assigned to you when you sign up on AUDITION DAY.
THIRD STAGE.
(OPTIONAL FOR ALL)
The third stage is an open cyper / all styles freestyle session. This is open to EVERYONE - auditionees, non auditionees, etc. *NOTE - Auditionees who DO participate in the third stage will BE judged on their freestyle.

1. UNDER 18? YOU NEED A WAIVER FORM TO AUDITION!!! IT NEEDS TO BE SIGNED BY YOUR PARENT OR GUARDIAN!!! EMAIL US FOR IT!
2. 18 OR OVER? YOU NEED A PHOTO ID WITH YOUR DATE OF BIRTH ON IT!!!
3. IT’S $5 ON BOTH PREAUDS AND ON AUDITIONS!!! MAKING FOR A GRAND TOTAL OF 10 DOLLARS!!!
4. ARE YOU WATCHING THE AUDITIONS ON SEPT 16th? WEEELLL….Y’ALL GOTTA PAY TOO! $2 DOLLARS! we’re sorry for the inconvenience. Step by Step is a small place. If you’re gonna be watching, you’ll be taking up space.
5. IF YOU ARE AUDITIONING FOR PROJECT D, YOU HAVE TO GO TO BOTH THE PREAUDITIONS AND THE AUDITIONS! WE WILL BE TAKING THE NAMES AND CONTACT INFO OF ALL WHO ARE AUDITIONING FOR PROJECT D. IF YOU COME TO AUDITIONS AND YOUR NAME IS NOT ON THE MANIFEST, YOU ARE NOT TRYING OUT.

“DON’T GET IT TWISTED!”
For NEW people auditioning to PROJECT D: YOU ARE ONLY REQUIRED to DO Stage 2 - Individual Rounds. Stage 1 - Team rounds are OPTIONAL. Stage 3 - Freestyle ROUND is OPTIONAL. MEANING you can do it IF YOU DECIDE TO DO IT and it will only benefit you by giving you more opportunities to show us what you got!
FOR RETURNEES and OLDIES re auditioning to PROJECT D: YOU ARE REQUIRED to DO BOTH Stage 1 - Team rounds, and STAGE 2 - individual rounds. STAGE 3 - OPTIONAL Freestyle BUT IS HIGHLY ENCOURAGED.
STAGE 3 - Freestyle SESSION, is actually OPEN TO ALL, auditionees, observers, other team members. IF you want to throw down, YOU ALL ARE MORE THAN WELCOME TO. HOWEVER IF YOU ARE AUDITIONING, then STAGE 3 WILL ALSO COUNT for AUDITIONING CRITERIA towards the final decision.

Is there an age ratio for joining?
NOPE. ALL Ages welcome.
If I do the freestyle, do I pick the song or something?
NOPE. The DJ will spin music for everyone to session. YOU COULD Request a song, and see if they have it or they’ll play it. **Might want to bring your favorite jam to the booth, and see if they’ll play it during freestyle session.
SO if i get high enough points do I become a TRAINEE?
Not exactly. The point system is just a background. The judging is both quantitative and subjective. You become trainee if you pass our auditions and show us on SEPT 16th that you can handle what we throw at you on SEPT 9th.
IF I missed pre audition workshops, can I still audition?
YES, if you can find someone to teach the pieces correctly to you and show us on AUDITION DAY. But you also need to be on the MANIFEST list for this to work. Contact a coordinator about that info.
“BUT What if I CAN’T MAKE the PRE-AUDITION DAY and I really want to AUDITION?”
Then shoot us an EMAIL at ProjectD.nj@gmail.com with your NAME, CELL, EMAIL addy, reason for missing preAUDITIONS, and “I REALLY WANT TO AUDITION” as the subject line. If we get it on time, your name should be on the manifest list for SEPT 16.
CAN I Record VIDEO?
YEA YOU SURE CAN! With three audition pieces taught? Of course you’re gonna need something to help you remember. OR If you’re there on SEPT 16th to watch, sure you can take home something cool on your cam. HOWEVER, if you do post these up ONLINE, please give credit where credit is due and provide a link to the pdstyle.wordpress.com site in the INFO of the vid (if youtube) and tag it pdstyle and or projectd.
