Description
Commercially astute artist, Maria Onyegbule, whose exhibition works include Hidden Agenda (former Ikon Gallery) and Comforts of Heritage (Oxford House, London) is currently visiting AfricanColours, Nairobi, for a month long residency throughout July 2008. Maria’s upcoming exhibition is highly personal and deeply rooted in her African Heritage; her series of paintings having been influenced by her extensive travels in and around Africa beautifully shed light on the continents vast colours.
‘The colours I use evoke the feel of Africa and reflect my desire to remain close in heart to the land of my family origin and that of my ancestors.’
Maria is able to focus on simple everyday tasks such as women at a market and somehow glorify them giving life through her art. A simple market scene becomes a fusion of vibrant colour that breaths life and pattern. A young man in prayer creates stillness, harmonic balance and reflection.Do come along and witness this exhibit of cultural diversity, Maria’s and that of Africa.
‘This is my journey of discovery. I believe we are far more than individuals we are the vessels of all that has been and the possibility of all that will be.’
