Description
Trans-Border Institute Visiting Fellow Octavio Rodriguez will reflect upon the structure of public security and police reform efforts in Mexico following his recent visit with the Mexican Secretary of Public Security, Genaro Garcia Luna. This unique opportunity to personally meet with a cabinet-level public official served to inform the research agenda of TBI’s Justice in Mexico Project by providing a rare insight into Mexico’s efforts to advance its rule of law and criminal justice reforms. Among the topics discussed at this meeting and which Lic. Rodriguez will address are the interdependence between justice and security, the public security strategy of President Felipe Calderon, and the institutional transformation of the public security apparatus in Mexico.
