At this year’s Scotiabank Nuit Blanche (October 4, 2008), Diaspora Dialogues is pleased to present Where You Are Right Now, an interactive, ever-changing sound and story installation that will weave a tapestry of Toronto’s many voices.

Hosted in the Celia Franca Centre at Canada’s National Ballet School, this interactive oral/aural installation collects audience responses to the question, “Where are you right now?” Participants are asked to interpret the question in any way they choose, and public responses will be recorded and incorporated into a multi-channel sound installation inside the Celia Franca Centre’s spacious Town Square lounge.

This ground-breaking installation is designed and facilitated by the Dora award winning talents of composer/musician John Gzowski and theatre designer/installation artist Camellia Koo. Participants’ stories will be collected from sunset to sunrise, while Gzowski mixes the recordings live and creates a multi-faceted soundtrack to accompany visual elements designed by Koo.

“Diaspora Dialogues’ mandate is to reflect the city’s complexity through a diverse selection of literary voices and experiences,” says Diaspora Dialogues president Helen Walsh. “We are thrilled to have the opportunity at Scotiabank Nuit Blanche to fulfill this mandate in an innovative new way, in a beautiful and accessible community space. Through this unique installation we aim to share and support the lived experiences of our city.”
