The Lakeshore Theater will be host to its first spec script reading. If you've never been to one, a spec script reading is where a television script, in this case for The Office, is read by performers seated in front of a live audience.

The idea of the reading is to collect feedback from the audience via comment cards to help the writer continuously hone their draft, and generate interest within the writing industry. This reading will begin promptly at 8pm. It is 100% free to the public, and food will be provided. There will also be a pay bar. Performers in the reading come from Second City, Blewt Productions, Chicago Underground Comedy, and more.

This episode picks up where the last season left off.. and it will never air. Specs like this are used to show an understanding of television series and working within a formula. Employees at NBC who work on The Office are contractually obligated to not even read Office scripts. But it does present showrunners, writers, and producers who work for other, similar sitcoms an ability to work within a form.

There will also be a reading of another spec at 7pm, written by Todd Edwards.
