An afternoon of music inspired by anti-war activism and reflections of conflicts past and present in tribute of Remembrance Day. The theme of Conflict and Resolution will be explored through the reflections of composers in times of struggle and peace. The eclectic play list will include classically infused versions of funky vintage protest songs such as Marvin Gaye's "What's going on?" and Edwin Starr's "War!", along with classical pieces such as the monumental tragic work of Schostakovich's 8th string quartet depicting the struggles he felt after being forced to join the Communist party. These works define the sorrows and strong will in all of us which make us human.
War! - Edwind Starr
In Flander's Fields
Quartet #8 arranged for String Orchestra - Dimitri Schostakovich
Little Suite Opus 1 - Carl Neilson
What's going on? - Marvin Gaye
