Description

Here's what we have planned for Earth Day festivities:

What: Earth Week at Grand Central will be comprised of several special events, the Giant Earth Images in Grand Central and EarthFair. In addition to the approximately 700,000 people that pass through Grand Central on an average day, we hope to draw thousands more from NYC and its surrounding communities through a multi-tiered advertising and marketing campaign.

The Venue: Grand Central Terminal is an extraordinary Beaux Arts landmark in the heart of New York City. Grand Central Station is served by Metro-North commuter trains, 31 commuter and 15 city bus routes, 7 subway lines, buses to and from the area’s three airports and two million taxis a year. Vanderbilt Avenue is located on the west side of the main concourse.

The Giant Earth Images: April 20th-26th; 10am-8pm. The week-long show will illuminate the historic landmark’s soaring main concourse with inspiring environmentally themed quotes, messages, photographs and graphic images contributed by artists such as Andy Warhol, Keith Haring, Roy Lichtenstein, and Rafal Olbinski, among others. The show, projected onto two of the north columns in the concourse, will run ten hours a day and will include sponsor logos between three and six times an hour. “The Take Action for Earth Day Campaign”: April 18th: In partnership with PlaNYC's MillionTreesNYC initiative, New York Restoration Project and NYC Dept. of Parks & Recreation, Earth Day New York will facilitate a tree planting in South Jamaica, Queens to help promote a greener and healthier New York City. Sign up here: http://www.jetblue.com./green/trees.asp Space is limited!

EarthNight: April 22nd; 6pm-11pm; Earth Day New York will host a special social networking party at Environment Furniture's chic showroom in honor of Earth Day. EarthNight is designed to bring New Yorkers together to celebrate Earth Day and strengthen ties within the City’s environmental community in a fun and informal setting. Tickets are limited; there will be an open bar and appetizers.

EarthFair: April 24th (12PM-7PM) and April 25th (11AM-5PM); A two-day festival of art, music and the environment on Vanderbilt Avenue & in Vanderbilt Hall. A large exhibit area highlighting our sponsors, other green businesses, organic food and environmental groups will include interactive displays that will not only educate, but provide an opportunity to take positive action for our environment. EarthFair also features live musical entertainment including numerous well-known performers and New York City-based bands.
