Description:
This workshop introduces species distribution modeling, the process of combining species location (x,y) data with environmental data (climate, landcover, etc.) to predict where a particular species may occur. It is suitable for participants with little to no experience with species modeling, though the Intro to GIS is recommended. We will explore the theory behind species modeling, and complete some hands-on exercises to introduce the DIVA-GIS and Maxent modeling applications.
* Agenda:
* Presentation
o Overview of species distribution modeling
o Data types and sources
o Modeling algorithms
* Interactive
o Using DIVA-GIS to build a simple BIOCLIM distribution model
o Using Maxent to build a species distribution model
