San Francisco, California - Bill Graham was the first concert producer to bring the likes of BB King, Muddy Waters, John Lee Hooker and Jimmy Reed to The Fillmore’s white audiences – pairing blues, with rock and roll, comedy and mime. This year at ‘Bill’s Birthday Bash’, the Foundation celebrates this link to blues and American Roots music by presenting the funky Meters featuring Cyril Neville, Marcia Ball and The San Francisco Mime Troupe Celebrating their 50th Anniversary and Special Guest Bonnie Raitt - an exciting combination of talent befitting Bill’s long legacy of presenting eclectic artists together on stage and celebrating Bill’s long standing relationship with the San Francisco Mime Troupe. Bill died in a helicopter accident in 1991, and this would have been his 78th Birthday. Saturday, January 10th, 2009 at The Fillmore at 1805 Geary Street in San Francisco. Doors 8 PM and Show 9 PM. The Bill Graham Memorial Foundation recently announced their grant recipients for 2009, giving close to $200,000 in arts funding. The Bill Graham Memorial Foundation has given grants totaling almost $2 million dollars to worthy organizations in the areas of music and arts education, social work, environmental protection, spiritual and compassionate projects. In keeping with the spirit of the late, great impresario Bill Graham who always supported the "little guy", The Bill Graham Memorial Foundation seeks to assist those whose needs are often times not served by larger philanthropic organizations.
