Description
Original Yankee Stadium to Remain Standing in the Bronx—in Botanical Garden’s Holiday Train Show
Sunday, November 23, 2008–Sunday, January 11, 2009
Come see Yankee Stadium! Although the actual, 85-year-old Yankee Stadium is scheduled for demolition beginning this winter the botanically interpreted replica of the “House that Ruth Built,” which was wildly received by visitors when it was added in 2005, will hold a place of honor in this year’s Holiday Train Show.
New to this year’s Holiday Train Show: renditions of the American Museum of Natural History’s Rose Center for Earth and Space, home of the famous Hayden Planetarium, and four structures in New York City’s Historic House Trust—Hendrick I. Lott House, Swedish Cottage Marionette Theater, Old Stone House, and Merchant’s House Museum. These additions will be placed among re-creations of other iconic New York sights such as Ellis Island, Statue of Liberty, Brooklyn Bridge, St. Patrick’s Cathedral, and Radio City Music Hall—all made of plant parts.
The holiday season at the Botanical Garden offers activities for the whole family. Children can enjoy Gingerbread Adventures in the Everett Children’s Adventure Garden, Holiday Puppet Theater presentations of The Little Engine That Could TM in the Arthur and Janet Ross Lecture Hall, and visits with Thomas the Tank Engine TM on the Garden grounds.
During the Holiday Train Show regular Botanical Garden hours will be 10 a.m.–6 p.m., Tuesday–Sunday. The Garden will be open on two Mondays during the run, December 22 and 29, and will have extended hours, from 10 a.m. until 7 p.m., on select Fridays and Saturdays and during Christmas week: November 28, 29, December 6, 13, 20, 22, 23, 26, 27, 28, 29, 30, 31, and January 1, 2. The Garden is closed on Thanksgiving and Christmas Day and will close at 3 p.m. on December 5 and December 24. Advance timed tickets may be purchased online at www.nybg.org.
