Description

On March 25, the Texas State Board of Education will hold the last of several public hearings on whether evolution should be taught in schools as settled science or an open question. On that same day, the Texas Interdisciplinary Plan will sponsor a debate at 3 p.m. in the Texas Union’s Quadrangle Room between biology professor Arturo De Lozanne and philosophy professor Robert Koons on the question that has sparked often angry testimony before the Board from scientists and social conservatives: are there weaknesses in the theory of evolution?

The debate is free and open to the campus community.

This is the first in a series of Chautauquas - named after the freewheeling educational camps popular a century ago - hosted by the Texas IP. Texas IP allows Liberal Arts and Natural Sciences majors to design their own interdisciplinary minors around topics of personal interest.
