Description

This week-long event will bring awareness to poverty in our local community, and globally.
It coincides with the UN Millennium Campaign's Stand Up Speak Out event, and White Band day, as well as the International Day for the Eradication of Poverty.

There will be speakers from local organizations, tables from clubs and organizations where concrete actions can be taken, a photo art exhibit on poverty, and an opportunity to stand up and be counted as part of a world record attempt for standing up against poverty.

Events will be focussed on October 16th and 17th, with the Stand Up event (the world record attempt) taking place at 12:30 on Wednesday the 17th. THIS IS THE MOST IMPORTANT PART TO ATTEND!

*****NOTE*****
I've realized that the dates and times I put on the event info might be confusing. There will be stuff going on monday to friday from 10am to 3pm, and if you are planning to come to ANY of it, you should mark yourself down as attending. I'm not expecting anyone to be there for the entire time, as we all have classes and other obligations, but any time you can be there is great!

The most important part of the whole event is the Stand Up and White Band events which will be taking place at 12:30 on Wed Oct 17th - essentially someone will read a pledge to stand agasint poverty while we're all sitting or kneelling, and then we will all stand up together and get counted toward a world record. After everyone is counted anyone who can stay for a few minutes will form a line down university hall, all wearing something white (a t-shirt, a strip of fabric tied to your waist or arm, a white band) for a great photo op for White Band Day 5.

Oh, and whether you can make it or not, please send an invitation to this event to all your friends who might be able to attend - let's make this event a huge success!
