Description
One Day University events bring you four great professors giving their finest lectures. We’ll begin our March 14th event in Morristown with Lawrence Wilkerson, who will be speaking on Iran, Iraq, and President Obama’s first national security crisis. Wilkerson is uniquely qualified to offer some fascinating insights on this topic. He’s not only a professor of government at the College of William and Mary, but also a retired U.S. Army colonel and former chief of staff to Secretary of State Colin Powell. Next, we’ll hear from Professor Shelley Carson of Harvard, who will help us understand the psychology of bad choices.
Columbia/Barnard Professor Richard Pious will then discuss Abraham Lincoln’s constitutional dictatorship. Today, Lincoln is often considered America’s greatest president. Yet, during the Civil War he chose to suspend some of our most sacred rights in the name of safeguarding the nation. This lecture is a compelling mix of history, politics, and law, and it couldn’t be more timely. Vice President Cheney recently defended the actions of the Bush administration by citing Lincoln’s decisions. After the presentation by Professor Pious, you won’t think about Lincoln or the current debates over executive power the same way again. Finally, Professor Ralph Williams from the University of Michigan will speak on Shakespeare’s Unique Understanding of Life’s Turning Points. Professor Williams has been voted best professor on campus nine times. After seeing this powerful lecture, you’ll understand why.
