Description
The Honors College L.C. Sears Collegiate Seminar Series and the Center for World Missions are co-sponsoring a presentation by Hemant Mehta, author of "I Sold My Soul on eBay: Viewing Faith Through an Atheist's Eyes."
Hemant was raised by Jain parents (a pacifistic religion in India) in Chicago, but abandoned his faith as a teenager. Although he had never been to a church in his life, Hemant became a leader in secular student organizations. Hemant decided to auction off the rights to send him to church on eBay. When Jim Henderson, of Off the Map Ministries, "bought Hemant's soul," Hemant ended up visiting several well-known churches and writing critiques of the experience, the good and the bad.
Hemant will speak about his personal story and his view of churches; what they do right and what they do wrong. Dr. Monte Cox will dialogue with Hemant, exploring issues on which secularists and Christians can agree and disagree.
