Description

Although Jewish women largely shared the same ultimate fate as did Jewish men during the Holocaust, their experiences were often different. At times when men were unable to work or were unavailable, women added to their traditional roles to become breadwinners and diplomats with a hostile world. Women also played leading roles in every sort of resistance. To the extent possible, women took advantage of the few opportunities their gender afforded, but gender and gender-defined roles were also liabilities.

Study with leading scholars and listen to inspiring testimony about the heroic efforts of Jewish women to maintain themselves and their families with dignity during the Holocaust.

The STAJE Summer Seminar is free, but admission is by application. Applications are due June 19, 2009 and can be found here: http://www.mjhnyc.org/documents/STAJEApplication.pdf

A light lunch will be provided (dietary laws observed) each day of the seminar. Public transportation or parking will be reimbursed up to $17 per person or vehicle per day.
