Evergreen Theatre They're less of an orchestra than a three-ring circus, with banjo, accordion, trumpet and a Cape Breton fiddler all sharing space with a fiery rock trio, successfully steering away from tired Celtic rock clichés and instead inserting last-call intensity to songs that aim for Springsteen-ian heights with dashes of New Orleans jazz for good measure.

One of Canada’s premier singer-songwriters, Ron Hynes has created beautifully crafted signature songs for nearly 35 years. With seven solo albums and numerous collaborative recordings to his credit, Ron Hynes is a six-time East Coast Music Award winner, a Genie Award winner, and a past JUNO, CCMA and Canadian Folk Musi...c Award nominee. He holds an Honorary PhD from Memorial University for his song writing and contribution to the cultural life of his beloved Newfoundland, and is the recent recipient of the SOCAN National Achievement Award for song writing career success.
Frequently referred to as the "man of a thousand songs", Ron Hynes is best known for his folk classic “Sonny’s Dream”, haunting chronicle “Atlantic Blue”, heart wrenching requiem “Godspeed”, and a string of radio hits including “Cryer’s Paradise”, “No Kathleen”, “Roy Orbison Came On”, “Get Back Change” and more. Experiencing music from our northern musical heritage in a presentation called ‘Not Much is Worse than a Troll’
Marco Cera (guitar), Kirk Elliott (violin, harp, bagpipes, psaltery, accordion, etc.), Margaret Gay (cello), Ben Grossman (hurdy gurdy, jaw harp), Katherine Hill (voice, nyckelharpa)..., Alison Melville (flutes, recorders, seljefløyte), Colin Savage (clarinet, bass clarinet, recorders), and Debashis Sinha (percussion).
Ensemble Polaris, formed in 1997, plays innovative, category-defying versions of tunes from Scandinavia, the Baltic countries, Canada and other northern climes. ‘Not Much is Worse than a Troll’, the name of their Musique Royale presentation, is the title of their second CD, released in 2005. Often referred to as Canada’s only ‘Arctic fusion’ band, Ensemble Polaris has steadily been winning fans and critical acclaim across North America, Europe and Australia for their vivacious, accessible stage manner and captivating versions of traditional music from Nordic countries. With influences ranging from Balkan to klezmer and Baroque to the Hot Club of Paris, combined with a dazzling range of instrumental colours (nyckelharpa, hurdy gurdy, Norwegian willow flute!!) Polaris concerts feature haunting ballads, rollicking dance tunes, tender lullabies and laments, and nonsense songs that appeal to music lovers of all stripes and ages!
