Vacationer work for international students – prepare early!
Many questions on our Wall come from international students wanting more information on the opportunities available at Ernst & Young. To get some insider information, we spoke to Shayan in our Adelaide office about how he came to work at Ernst & Young after moving from Sri Lanka in 2005.

An important first step Shayan took was to get in early when booking his IELTS test to ensure he didn’t miss out on applying. For international students, not having the required results on the IELTS test may mean you’ll miss out on applying to one of Ernst & Young’s programs.
For Shayan, the Vacationer Program gave him a valuable preview into the world of Ernst & Young before he was offered a permanent role as a graduate in February 2008.
“Joining the Vacationer Program made me realise I wanted to work with Ernst & Young. You work in teams accomplishing real goals from the start, even if you’re not necessarily doing high level work.”
Shayan’s advice for international students is to be yourself throughout the recruitment process and to prepare early.
“Ernst & Young is known for its diversity; they value the different experiences international students bring to the team. “
"Before you apply, make sure you’re doing other activities like volunteering or sport to demonstrate you’re more than just brains.”
International students can apply for the Career Compass, Vacationer and Graduate Programs. Check out the international student section of our website. for eligibility criteria.

How to make the most of your summer
1. Replace the popcorn with a picnic basketOpen air cinemas operate throughout summer. Find one in your local area, get a group of friends together and enjoy the movies by moonlight.
2. Get back to your grass roots
Find out where the bushwalking tracks are in your area by doing a search on the web. Then put on your walking shoes; grab a map; get outdoors and soak up the fresh air.
3. Make this summer last
Time capsules aren’t just for celebrities. Put together some photos, newspaper clippings, a cutting of your pet’s hair and anything else which will remind you of summer 2009. Put it somewhere safe and open it up 10 years down the track.
4. Get cultured
Read a classic novel or take a short course at your local community college and start learning a new language.
5. Prevent the beetroot look
Getting sun burnt isn’t smart. Prevent skin cancer by slipping on a shirt, slopping on some SPF 30+ sunscreen and slap on a hat when you’re outside in the sun.

Do I need to be a maths whiz?
No. You don't need to be top of your maths class to work with us, but you do need solid numeracy skills. You don't need to be a 'straight A' student. We value your work experience and like to know about your involvement in extra curricular activities as well.
