I also agree! Shouldn't we be looking to keep some of the programs we have now instead of purchasing new books? At Springfield Estates, my kids only have art class once every 2 weeks because of short funds. Now I hear that orchestra and band might not be available next year. Perhaps a delay of getting new books is a good idea until times are ... Read Morebetter. My kids use their history textbooks infrequently compared to the teacher handouts or worksheets they get or pull off the internet. Though..maybe that's why we need new history books?

I agree-I think the 4th grade Virginia Studies textbook is really good, and I don't think it needs to be replaced. I'd rather keep elementary school band and strings classes, which I understand are at risk of being cut.

Act now! Go to the community dialogues or at least provide online comments to voice your concerns over some key programs facing elimination (ie: elementary school foreign language, strings, etc). See what's on the chopping block. If these programs are eliminated, it WILL change the face of FCPS. We will no longer have a world-class school system ... Stop letting the expelled kids be a financial burden and put them to work instead of letting them sit home and have private instruction. Yes, I commented online. ;)

The many school budgets discussed will not go well with the culture in Fairfax County....let's hope some extra revenue gets directed for educational funding use.

With all the info FCPS puts out regarding "monitor the progression" of H1N1, why haven't any postings been made to tell us which schools have reported cases? I know of several schools with cases but NOTHING has been reported to parents. I'd like to be on the watch for the spread to my children. Let's do a better job in this area of communication FCPS Health Officials.

It was my understanding the influenza vaccine distribution was based on population. I would think that Fairfax county would be near the top of the list but nothing (or not enough is seems). There are small counties in Maryland that already have it. What's the deal?

ALL Fairfax County residents need to speak up, participate, contribute in finding solutions to preserve the high quality of education for our future contributing citizens, currently at risk due to deep budget cuts (up to $170 million). Help us to maintain the prestige our unique public schools afford our community and businesses, which in turn makes Fairfax County on of the most desirable places to live in the nation.

FFX County Board of Supervisors support is critical. If the BOS hears us, all of us, say that Foreign Language programs, Band/Strings, Full Day Kindergarten, etc. are extremely important to us - are part of what makes people come to Fairfax County, bring their employees to Fairfax County - they will provide the School Board with more money, somehow. Please pass the word to friends, neighbors, colleagues - even those without children - that this issue is being discussed and decided upon now. An email to the Board of Supervisors (http://www.fairfaxcounty.gov/government/board/)
and the County Executive (https://www.fairfaxcounty.gov/contact/mailform.aspx?ref=2002) is the LEAST we can ALL do..
