Kate Oakley My female ferret who just turned 1 year old seems to be making these sort of nesting balls that appear to be made up of hair and other fibers from around the room...is this normal for a female?? Also her coat isn't anywhere near as full and beautiful as it used to be..could this be that she is using her own hair???

Oh yes!! We had no issues until we got females and then it all began! Most of our males are totally laid back but the girls?? That is why we have 2 play groups!!!

About a year ago, my female ferret passed away and my 2 boys didn't know what to do. They needed a girl to to tell them what to do. Now that I have a girl again, they are much happier.

FerretsMagazine.com A ferret owner asks Ferrets magazine behavior expert Ailigh Vanderbush is there is a cause for concern if a ferret suddenly likes to cuddle when it didn’t previously. Have you ever experienced this and had it the issue turn out to be a medical problem?

Absolutely! My boy Spirit is big and lazy, but if I put him on the bed with me he generally either starts tunneling through the covers or hops off in search of his girls. The two times he lay down with me and didn't get up, we ended up at the Vet. The first time he was hospitalized with a respritory infection and the second time they had to take his 1/2 lb. spleen out. Lethargy is a big sign something could be wrong!

I have seen it both ways. I have owned 3 ferrets thus far, 2 died, 1 remaining. [I also have another ferret (2 year old) I am babysitting for a while], and my 7 year old girl. The 2 that died got distant before they passed and the 7 year old, also dying of adrenal gland disease, <been to the vet> NEVER ever used to cuddled (I rescued her from ... Read Moreabusive situation & assumed she just did not like to be held) <thats fine lol she loved to play> but now that she is dying she ALWAYS wants to be with me. I can hold her and she will fall asleep in my arms and she never used to do that. Comfort I suppose.

We had one whose personality changed into cuddle bear after a very serious illness. He ran a fever of 103 to 106 for a couple of days. Afterward, he wanted to be held and loved on while he had not tolerated it before. He also lost his "edge" mentally.

One of my girls, Zane, loves digging their water out. I swear she has a little ferret sized diving board hidden somewhere that she uses when I'm not looking.
