James 张建德 Chang

James 张建德 Chang 1. I really like using the software a lot!! In my opinion, the fonts in Finale look much better than those of Sibelius, and the interface is more intuitive.
2. I love the interactivity of the people at MakeMusic and the comments people put here. That makes customer support so much more open and accessible.
3. Finale is awesome and thank goodness for MakeMusic!

You have to find the instrument list file and edit it in notepad. You'll see different groups of text for each instrument, so just copy and paste one and change the information for each new instrument you want. There's a space for transposition, and you might have to experiment with that to figure it out.

Hope that helps :)

Jacob Hinson

Jacob Hinson I am currently in the process or writing a new score and I was wondering if there is a way to re-space my staves to use the full page that doesn't require me to do it with the page layout tool.

Thank You! How exactly do I use this tool? I want and equal amount of space between each staff such as in a Clarinet Section and throughout the whole score and I also want a little extra space between instrument families such as Trumpet and Horn.

Hi Jim,

Both SongWriter and PrintMusic absolutely can play back scanned in music. Have you tried the demo for either version yet?

Jacob Hinson

Jacob Hinson Hi! I have a request for the developer. Do you think it would be possible to make a Finale application for the iPod Touch/iPhone to quickly and easily notate small musical ideas when you don't have immediate access to a piece of staff paper or a computer?

Hi Adam, I agree a dedicated Finale layout for NumPad is a good idea, and I've forwarded the request.

If I understand correctly, however, NumPad (and others like NumberKey Free) currently work fine with Finale – the dedicated layout would only change what symbols appear over the keys (so, for example, you’d see a quarter note instead of a 5). Right? -Scott

So far so good...I had to change to the Windows default out for midi...the softsynth would work at first for playback, but after a random amount of use would start the caret for play back, but the sound would wait for a certain number of beats to kick in. It also crashes when I try to export to a music file. I have not tested that with something ... See Moresimple yet. We played a fairly complicated in-house piece into the software with no issue. We learned how to edit as we went. I was expecting to have an arrow on the duration toolbar, but holding the Ctrl key down works nicely...once I found out how to do that. One thing that PrintMusic cannot do that Finale supposedly can do is change the size of individual notes. When we have a piece for piano and voice where the melody is not the top note we would like to shrink the notes above it on the staff. (Or if you have an actual choral piece sometimes you want smaller notes to denote an optional soprano part or something.) Also, being able to hold Ctrl and scrolling with your mouse to zoom in or out of a piece would help in usability. It took me awhile to get the idea that leaving a measure for another measure is what caused the rests to fill in...a slightly visible indented box around the "working measure" would make this obvious to a first time user and might be helpful to others to easily keep track of where they are on the score...especially when working quickly. So far we are pleased with the product.

Kenneth Kenworthy Have you ever considered developing a facebook app version of your showcase feature on the website? I would not only enjoy that, but think it could be a considerable conduit to instant mass-marketing for this incredible product.
