The fourth album from Idaho-based band Finn Riggins shows a band that has found their sound and is putting it to the limit. The album starts off jumpy as I found myself like every other track featuring steel drum and synth solos. ...

On Sunday, November 15, U. of O. Campus Radio 88.1 FM KWVA welcomes Built To Spill back to the WOW Hall with openers Disco Doom and Finn Riggins.
Every autumn (at least, in the past couple of years), Built to Spill sweeps into town for a marvelous show. Last year they treated concert-goers to a performance of an old alb...um, Perfect From Now On. This year, Built to Spill is on tour in support of their new album, There is No Enemy. The band's first album since 2006's You In Reverse is a testament to three years of work. And the added bonus to the night’s show? A DJ set by the band’s lead singer and founder, Doug Martsch. Ever wondered what musical tastes inspire and influence such a musical mastermind? Now is the time to find out.
Built to Spill comes from the neighboring state of Idaho and certainly fits the mold of a Northwestern band: bearded musicians clad in modest clothing, with thoughtful music and an indie rock aesthetic. Or rather, they set that standard. Doug Martsch, who writes the music, sings and plays the guitar, has been around for twenty years. The current lineup is a collection of experienced musicians: Brett Nelson on bass, Scott Plouf on drums, and two more guitarists, Jim Roth and Brett Netson.
The sound of Built To Spill is eclectic and polished. Their style is lyrical, contemplative and melodic. Each song is filled with strong, layered guitar lines and glorious extended musical segments. Look forward to a mix of new songs and old favorites. While all their songs have an innovative sound, each album features evolutions in their musical stylings and different mixtures of skilled musicians.
Come see Built to Spill as they near the end of a long national tour. The night’s show includes Disco Doom, Finn Riggins and the much anticipated Doug Martsch DJ set.
Tickets are $22 in advance, $25 at the door. Doors open at 7:00 pm and showtime is 8:00.
SHOWTIME: 8:00 PM, PRICE: $22 Advance, $25 Door.

Once revered by the indie cognoscenti as the new messiah, Built to Spill founder Doug Martsch and his revolving lineup consistently deliver skewed pop made of bold guitars and Martsch's adolescent croon. There's Nothing Wrong with Love (1994), went a long way towards shaping the sound of early indie rock, while Perfect From Now On (1997) saw Martsch and friends experimenting with longer prog rock arrangements. Keep It Like a Secret (1999) marked a return to more focused pop, while the band's live shows sought to balance the epic with the concise. One of these sets (which includes a 20-minute nod to Neil Young's "Cortez the Killer") was finally documented on 2000's Live. Another trip to the studio in 2001, resulted in Ancient Melodies of the Future, featuring the group's signature spiraling guitars, reigned in by irresistible melodies. After that, Martsch took a break from BTS to play basketball, catch up on his reading and listen to old blues records. It would be five long years before the finishing touches were sprinkled on You in Reverse (2006), the band's most collaborative recording to date, and one that even tosses in reggae rhythm into its prodigious guitar solos and epic choruses.
