Obviously, quoting Muhammad is not the same as endorsing everything he ever did. What is important is that the man is attributed, in the Q'ran and hadith, with a great deal of advocacy of not only self-improvement, but also resistance against oppression.

Many of the famous quotes that prove how "evil" Islam is would be supported by the very same ... See Morepeople, if taken in context. "...you should kill the infidel..." usually is something vaguely like "If he is a tyrant who oppresses either the faithful or the innocent, you should kill the infidel".

This puts the blowback against governments who support tyranny into perspective.

Thought that is silenced is always rebellious. Majorities, of course, are often mistaken. This is why the silencing of minorities is necessarily dangerous. Criticism and dissent are the indispensable antidote to major delusions. -- Alan Barth, The Loyalty of Free Men (1951)

Everyone has responsibility for keeping themselves from "confusion".

How, precisely, would the minority silence the majority, in a constitutional republic constrained in its powers the way ours is supposed to be?

Any rightful morality can survive others being fee to criticize it. Anything that can't earn its support in freedom doesn't deserve better.

Jae Mann I can't help but wonder how many of the people posting about how they have the right to critique the current president (which they do) are the same people that were telling me and mine to stop being unpatriotic or unamerican in our critique of the war mongering, right restricting, constitution ignoring previous president.

William Cook the press is the only business protected by the constitution. your creator gave you your right to free speech, even in hate. You do not have the right to be offended, you have the right to ignore it. It is the thought that the state or the oligarchy gives rights, that is what has condemned most of man kind to live as slaves.
