Greenhouse Productions and Flagstaff Cultural Partners are pleased to present John Gorka in concert at Coconino Center for the Arts.
John Gorka is an honored icon of folk tradition. His trademark energetic acoustic music, not a trend, not a fad, but an expression of everyday life, appeals to a diverse base of growing fa...ns. John Gorka has recorded eleven studio albums and describes his most recent release, “So Dark you See” as, “a more intimate, vocal and guitar centered record.” His songs and his voice are memorable, meaningful and introspective. His career spans over 30 years since his early days playing in college through 10 albums for Red House Records and Windham Hill.
He has been called a “songwriter’s songwriter.” Layered with meaning and rich in composition, his songs have been covered by a long list of well-respected artists including Nanci Griffith, Mary Chapin Carpenter, Mary Black, and Maura O’Connell. John Gorka has brought his music to an ever-widening audience touring with Ani DiFranco, Shawn Colvin, Mary Chapin Carpenter and Nanci Griffith.
Rolling Stone has called John Gorka “the preeminent male singer/songwriter of the new folk movement.” The songs of John Gorka are full of depth, beauty and emotion and have gained increasing attention from critics and audiences across the country, as well as in Europe where his tours have led him through Italy, Belgium, Scotland, Ireland, Holland, Switzerland and Germany.
Few contemporary songwriters come anywhere close to the talent of John Gorka. His songs leave an impression that has listeners contemplating the lyrics long after repeated listening.
"I feel like the song is not complete unless it has a receiver -- a listener who makes it a part of their own imagination, their own life. It becomes kindof a collective property and it's as much their song as it is mine." –John Gorka
