Brother Michael, I am concerned when I read the words "which altruists can become vicious when others disagree with them" and "impulse to become verbally abusive on behalf of a cause" in your article. We have been friends long enough for you to know how much I respect your intellectual vigor and your compassionate nat...ure. What concerns me is using the judgmental words "vicious" and "abusive" in reference to those that disagree with John's opinion will instantly find the rest of your article unworthy of reading.
My purpose in this format is to briefly raise my concerns over labeling others. My purpose is not to present a full and comprehensive analysis of my view on things.
Just as you, I fully want all of us to express our opinions and state our disagreements in no uncertain terms and to do so in a compassionate and respectful manner.
So, u ole billy goat, (judgmental terms of endearment in Texas) I hope I have added my two cents worth and have stirred the pot a little. peace.
