The Greater Chicago Food Depository is featured in this PSA for the Pound for Pound Challenge, a promotion that supports food banks and airs in connection with NBC's The Biggest Loser. This is the second straight year Feeding America is partnering with NBC and General Mills.

Area food pantries are seeing a 35 percent increase in demand from families in need.
Greater Chicago Food Depository
Dominick's Finer Foods and ABC 7 Chicago will be helping to fight empty plates this holiday season by rolling out the food collection barrels and decking Depository Dollars near check-out counters for their annual Dominick's & ABC 7 Chicago Holiday Food Drive to benefit the Greater Chicago Food Depository.
The eight-wee...k event runs this year from Nov. 5 through Jan. 3, 2010. Last year, the food drive collected the equivalent of 818,613 pounds of food that benefited hungry men, women and children.
This year, the goal is to gain the equivalent of more than 1 million pounds of food so everyone in our community may enjoy the bounty of the holidays.

Live and silent auctions including Suite tickets for the Bears vs. Packers on Dec. 13, exclusive wine dinner at Wildfire hosted by Alpana Singh, autographed original calendar art, Bears memorabilia and more.

The number of hungry people in the world rose to 1.02 billion this year, according to the United Nations, despite a 12-year concentrated effort to cut the number.
