Frank the Gorilla Frank is mighty grateful for his sweet family, shade on sunny days, ripe tomatoes, kindly keepers, ripe strawberries, warm milk (shh, he still needs a couple bottles a day), crispy greens, Cheerios in the grass, and his adoring fans. What are YOU thankful for this holiday?

Frank the Gorilla The best dressed kid at the Zoo today was wearing this tee shirt! Nice parents to get it in the gift shop and let the little spud change into it at the Zoo. Cute.

Frank the Gorilla Frank is a teeny bit excited about the big Panda Naming Ceremony tomorrow at the Zoo at 11:00 a.m. That little cub is cute as the dickens and will get his respectable Chinese name at last.

Can't wait to hear what name is chosen. This little one is as cute as Frank. We were down there when this little cub was born.

Frank the Gorilla Dr. Jane still ROCKS! Check her out on The Daily Show. Roots & Shoots was one of her (many) great ideas. Her passion for Great Apes and other animals is deeply appreciated.

Jane Goodall was criticized by animal rights extremists for lighting candles on her birthday cake. Airdate - 11/12/2009

I got to meet and chat with Dr. Goodall in 1973. Such a passionate advocate for great apes! And now, with the realization that no species can be saved without similar passion from the masses, she wisely engages children before they get become self-absorbed teens or jaded adults. Brillliant and hopeful.

Frank the Gorilla Recycling your cell phone is a DIRECT way to help gorillas in Africa, as this electronic "toy" requires COLTAN, an ore that is mined in Central Africa, bringing habitat destruction and deadly (human) diseases to Gorilla Grounds. You can recycle your phones and other small electronic devices at the Zoo and the Wild Anim...al Park anytime! Call someone and tell them...Frank is counting on us.

www.sandiegozoo.org
The Zoological Society of San Diego, along with Eco-Cell, a cellular phone recycling company, has a free-of-charge cell phone-recycling program at both the San Diego Zoo and the Wild Animal Park to encourage visitors to recycle.

I like this.... now if we could find a substitute for Coltan...but what a good start.....we are on the right path... Keep in it up buddy! You can change the world... one human at a time... or one cell phone at a time

Frank the Gorilla FYI - Before he explored the secret lives of cows in 'The Far Side,' Gary Larson worked as an animal cruelty investigator for the Humane Society. (No wonder Frank loves this guy!)

Frank the Gorilla Frank vows to get his shopping done early this year. He quite fortuitously ran across this web site and was particularly amused by the "primate play pack," which will make going to see the doctor much more fun! Now if he could just find his PrimateExpress card...

Frank the Gorilla Par-TAY! Vila, the third-oldest western lowland gorilla in the U.S., celebrated her 52nd birthday at the San Diego Zoo's Wild Animal Park yesterday with wrapped presents full of fruit, nuts and seeds, and a peanut-butter frosted banana ice cake topped with carrot "candles." She has four "grand-gorillas," four great-gra...nd-gorillas and three great-great-grand-gorillas. They live at the San Diego Zoo, the San Diego Zoo's Wild Animal Park and at two other zoos in the U.S. Vila's gentleness and patience have made her a wonderful surrogate caregiver at times when a gorilla's mother hasn't cared for a newborn. Vila even raised her granddaughter, Alberta.
Wow, even in Gorilla Years, she's 52! Frank wishes her much health, happiness, and treats for the coming year.

Frank is so handsome. I think he'll make a fine husband for our little Kibibi at the National Zoo . . . .in about 13-15 years! LOL

Be forewarned--Frank has many surrogate parents who are heavily invested in any future mate for our special boy (no offense, Kibibi).

Um, thanks ladies... keep in mind that gorillas operate best in a one-glorious-silverback-and-his-charming-mates-who-choose-to-hang-around social structure, but that's more than a decade down the road, so no need to farm me out yet! I love it here, and everyone takes such good care of me, one day I'll make you proud in a genetic sort of way. BTW, loved the cloud cover today!!
