Frugal Dad My good friends at Sears wanted me to pass along some info about their VIP sale this Sunday, Nov 15th. The online sale is all day Sunday, while the VIP events are from 6-9 PM.

I'm trying to resist the deal on that 54" Panasonic plasma television. It was a Consumer Report best buy at $1799, and it looks like it will be ...a good $300+ cheaper during this event. Then again, I might just save my money and stay with my 32" CRT dinosaur.

Stick with the Dinosaur till it breaks. I passed on a 46" Sharp 1080 LCD at Walmart last week for $488. Just couldn't justify it regardless of price.

Great price! I bought a 32" Sony 4-5 years ago for the same price and now it's in my daughter's bedroom because my son bought a 52" a couple of months ago. There will always be a bigger, better, mouse trap.

Probably not. After the big move last year from the DC area to TN, I find I really need nothing at all and my children have small homes, so they don't have the room for anything.

Frugal Dad Is this reason enough to keep a credit card around? They only time I worry about using a debit card is online with merchant I'm not familiar with, or in a spot where you have to fill out your card information in ink and mail in (subscriptions, bills, etc.).

It may be time to defrost my frozen credit cards. It turns out that using a debit card for every purchase—which I’m so guilty of!—is a bad idea. From the smarty-pants over at ShopSmart, here are the do's and don’ts of using a debit card:…

Frugal Dad Would anyone have hurt feelings if I discontinued my Weekly Roundup posts every Thursday? Or, at a minimum, posted them more infrequently or in smaller chunks (3-5 links with a small write up).

I agree with Adam...sometime less is more. I think we all have way to much info coming at us all the time. Just don't stop all together.

Thanks for the feedback. I've decided to keep the weekly roundup, but will feature less posts in each edition. Only the absolutely best will make the cut.

Thanks, Neal. Still battling, but I think I'm over the worst part. Now I've reached the phase where you feel like you've been run over by a bus - which, based on the last couple days, is actually an improvement!

Frugal Dad Q3 economic numbers were up, but incomes and jobs were flat. Good news based on artificial stimulus from Cash for Clunkers, or are things really improving? I suspect we are in the eye of the financial storm, and still have to get through the other side.

Frugal Dad My last haircut was $4.99 (walk-in place was running a special). Apparently some people out there indulge in an $800 visit to the salon. How about you?

articles.moneycentral.msn.com
Madonna, Naomi Campbell and Gwyneth Paltrow are among the boldface names paying Orlando Pita $800 to cut their hair. Shear lunacy, or worth the buzz?

dude...this is LA.......I have to spend about $17 to get a decent cut. But if I was as good looking as you I would spend less cause it wouldn't matter...I'd already be a handsome devil!

I usually cut my own hair, as well as my daughters, and my husband shaves his head. BUT, I would love to go to a nice salon (nice as in $75-100), where the stylist really knows hair and can give me a GREAT cut. It's totally frivolous, but there are some really talented people that do more than just cut hair.

Frugal Dad While catching up on my podcasts this weekend I heard some rumblings about a major credit card issuer implementing a fee to cardholders that pay off their balance every month. They declined to name names, but I'm curious if anyone has heard anything about this?

Stop making excuses and cancel the cards already. How many % points is your peace of mind worth? Opt-out of this crap. ;-)

Frugal Dad Has the Great Recession, the impending CARD Act, and other issuer tactics made you more or less likely to continue using credit cards?

I will continue to use credit cards but in a VERY different way than I used to. No more carrying balances.

@Pat: Same here. I plan to run routine purchases only (gas, utility payments, etc.) through one credit card and pay it off in full.

I do this more for convenience than anything else, but if I pick up a few rewards, great. If not, oh well. Like Dave Ramsey says, no one ever got rich off credit card rewards.
