I don't know details about existing rail infrastructure entering the SF area, but if it's anything like the sprawling snarl of parallel rail companies and their tracks that form such a huge barrier here between our City's people and the River... A huge Federal $ infrastructure project, such as for HSR, might be our ONLY chance to consolidate lines, ideally below-ground, freeing up land for open space, peds and bikes, etc.

Community service has many benefits for those who give back; a better city, new skills, new friendships, the warm knowledge you’ve made a difference. Now, there’s another benefit: a free visit at Disneyland (or Walt Disney World Resort in Florida, if you don’t mind the plane flight). The ...

Sara: There have been proposals for LA to Vegas for a while, and there was even talk of privately funding it, but for now it isn't being pursued the way that south to north is currently.

Mark: I think the problem is not that we don't have enough reservoirs, it is that we need to unpave more of LA. It is ironic that we preciously engineer every drop of water that lands to the north of us to flow south for our drinking needs, but anything that lands physically in our city quickly falls on paved streets, into the storm drains, out ... Read Moreto the LA River and then to the ocean. Proposition O (which I wrote in 2004) was a start--$500 million to unpave streets (check out http://tinyurl.com/yew66ky and http://bit.ly/yPJhb) and to reinfiltrate our natural aquifers (the largest of which is under the entire San Fernando Valley). I am negotiating with the county for more funds for more of these projects but you are definitely on the right path! Eric

Eric Garcetti Cool to see San Francisco sharing datasets with the public. We should look at good opportunities to do this in LA: RT @dijitalboy: Municipalities should consider liberating their city data as has #SF http://bit.ly/19nVUY #transparency
