On Wednesday, December 2, 2009, the New York State Senate rejected a bill that would have allowed gay couples to wed. The vote was 38-24, with 8 Democrats voting against marriage equality. Within hours, hundreds of activists gathered in Times Square.

Wish I could have been there. I left NYC some years ago. I remember protesting when Dan White got away with murder. The police chased us all over the Village.

It is clear that not all Democrats can be counted to support gay rights. Personally, I think a parliamentary type legislature would be a lot more democratic that the "Two party system" we have.
