ConocoPhillips White House Lecture Series
Time:6:00PM Monday, October 5th
Location:Annenberg Presidential Conference Center

George Bush Presidential Library Foundation
Nancy Gibbs and Michael Duffy, authors of "The Preacher and the Presidents: Billy Graham in the White House," will present the ConocoPhillips White House Lecture Series on Thursday, April 23 at 6:00 pm. The program will take place at the Annenberg Presidential Conference Center at the George Bush Presidential Library ...Center where Ms. Gibbs and Mr. Duffy will make remarks and participate in an audience question and answer session. A book signing will follow the program, and books will be available for purchase at the event.
"The Preacher and the Presidents: Billy Graham in the White House," relates the tale of how one preacher came to know every president from Harry Truman to George W. Bush. In the context of uniquely intimate relationships, Billy Graham played a role that no other figure in American history had assumed, counseling and praying with each president. Recognized as a source of shrewd political advice, Billy Graham was involved in almost every presidential election between 1952 and 2000. Offering a rare glimpse of both Reverend Graham and the presidents he knew, "The Preacher and the Presidents" reveals how the world's most powerful men and world's most famous evangelist knit together faith and politics.
Nancy Gibbs is Editor at Large at TIME magazine. The author of well over 100 cover stories and regular essays and profiles, she won the National Magazine Award for the special issue on September 11, 2001. When the news is quiet, she has focused on stories exploring the intersections of religion, values, and politics. Ms. Gibbs is a frequent guest on radio and television talk shows, including the Today show, Good Morning America, and the CBS Evening News. Ms. Gibbs graduated from Yale with a degree in history and has a degree in politics and philosophy from Oxford. She has twice served as the Ferris Professor at Princeton, where she taught a seminar on politics and the press.
Michael Duffy has been at the center of TIME magazine’s coverage of presidents and politics for nearly two decades. Mr. Duffy joined TIME in 1985 and has covered the Pentagon, congress, and the White House. After serving as TIME’s national political correspondent between 1995 and 1996, he was named Assistant Managing Editor in 2001 while serving as TIME’s Washington Bureau Chief. Duffy is a regular on PBS’s Washington Week with Gwen Ifill and has also appeared on Meet the Press, Face the Nation, and The Chris Matthews Show. Mr. Duffy is a graduate of Oberlin College and has served as a visiting professor at Princeton University.

George Bush, 41st President of the United States, will present the McLane Leadership in Business Award to Chuck Norris in recognition of Mr. Norris’s achievements as a marti...al arts legend, entrepreneur, and humanitarian. The event on Tuesday, March 31 will begin at 6:00 pm in the Annenberg Presidential Conference Center at the George Bush Presidential Library Center. Autographed copies of Mr. Norris’s most recent book, Black Belt Patriotism: How to Reawaken America, will be available for purchase at the event.
The McLane Award is co-sponsored by the George Bush Presidential Library Foundation and the Bryan-College Station Chamber of Commerce and serves to recognize the role of prominent individuals for their outstanding contributions in business and public service. The program and award are made possible through an endowment gift from Drayton McLane, owner of the Houston Astros. In addition, Compass Bank is helping to underwrite this year’s event.
A six-time undefeated World Professional Middle Weight Karate Champion, Chuck Norris holds the ranking of an eight-degree Black Belt Grand Master. As a martial arts instructor and advocate, he created the KICKSTART program with the help of President Bush. Focused on character-building and life-skills development in youth, KICKSTART has positively impacted more than 60,000 young people since its inception in 1990, and many of the students have gone on to attend college. Mr. Norris hopes to expand the program nationwide.
As a popular actor worldwide, Chuck Norris starred in the CBS television series, Walker, Texas Ranger, for eight seasons. Still seen by an estimated one billion viewers, the television program airs daily in the United States and many other countries worldwide. Mr. Norris has also appeared in films such as Delta Force, Missing in Action, Lone Wolf McQuade, and Sidekicks.
Mr. Norris served as an Airman First Class in the United States Air Force and has devoted a great amount of time to visiting hospitalized and active troops. He has served as spokesperson for the U.S. Veterans Administration and is a Veteran Foundation’s Veteran of the Year Award recipient. In 2007, he was made an honorary member of the United States Marine Corps in recognition of his visits to troops in Iraq.
Norris is also a New York Times bestselling author and nationally syndicated columnist. His autobiographical Against All Odds: My Story was published in 2004, and his first book of social commentary, Black Belt Patriotism: How to Reawaken America, was published in 2008. This newest book provides his blueprint for the nation’s return to its hard-working, pro-family roots.
Chuck Norris is the subject of countless Paul Bunyan-type fictional “facts” created by fans. It is estimated that there are more than 600,000 such “facts” circulating on the Internet, with one “fact” generating site receiving as many as 18 million visits a month.
