Buffering against stress by enlivening the prefrontal cortex - 'CEO of the brain' - through Transcendental Meditation. The 23 October business webinar—'How to Optimize Your Brain to Realize Your Full Leadership Potential'—at the Global Financial Capital of New York included a presentation by Dr Fred Travis, Director of... the Center for Brain, Consciousness and Cognition at Maharishi University of Management. Dr Travis is a world-renowned researcher in the field of brain development and the effects of Transcendental Meditation on brain functioning.
During the webinar, which was hosted by the Center for Leadership
Performance, he discussed research findings relating to key aspects of
success in business management. Dr Travis explained the
activity of different parts of the brain, distinguishing between brain
activity under challenges and under stress. He also presented a live
demonstration showing how EEG brain wave activity is influenced by the
practice of the Transcendental Meditation Programme. He explained that the elements that make a leader great reside in the 'CEO of the brain', the prefrontal cortex.
Distinguishing between challenge and stress, Dr Travis also explained
that under stress, the frontal areas become unavailable. Under
challenge, the primitive part of the brain, the brain stem, activates
the whole brain, and one experiences more clearly and thinks more
quickly. In the experience of stress the brain 'downshifts',
Dr Travis said, and the higher cortical centres 'turn off the brain,
leading to tunnel vision. The key is to prevent challenge from becoming
stress,' Dr Travis said. 'This is one brain angle for understanding
what happens during Transcendental Meditation, during which the frontal
circuits become strengthened, so that you have a buffer against ongoing

An exhibition booth featuring the Transcendental Meditation Programme
drew great interest at a large Expo in Barbados last month. Afterwards
many people attended introductory talks about the technique, and many
also learned Transcendental Medit...ation. The Mind Body Spirit
Expo was held in a beautiful and prestigious conference centre, and the
Transcendental Meditation exhibition beautifully fulfilled its theme:
'Recognizing Unity in Diversity'. The booth featured large charts displaying scientific research
on the Transcendental Meditation Programme, displays of books and
pamphlets, and three very large monitors showing video presentations. One video of particular interest to visitors highlighted many news media reports on Consciousness-Based Education
from around the world. Another monitor displayed a PowerPoint
presentation: 'Creating Unity in Diversity through Development of
Higher States of Consciousness—Transcendental Meditation'. The third
was an interactive touch screen for the Transcendental Meditation
website—attracting many young people. Dr David Lee Sheng Tin,
National Director of the Transcendental Meditation Programme in
Trinidad and Tobago, was in Barbados offering Maharishi Light Therapy with Gems,
and gave a presentation on the topic at the exhibition. He will be
using the 'Unity in Diversity' PowerPoint presentation from the Expo in
Transcendental Meditation lectures and other events in Trinidad and
Tobago. Visitors to the booth were given a beautiful flyer created by two local Yogic Flyers—both graduates of Maharishi University of Management
in Fairfield, Iowa, USA—which included contact information for the
local Maharishi Invincibility Centre* and details about upcoming
introductory talks on Transcendental Meditation. Many people
attended talks as a result of the Expo, and a large number also learned
Transcendental Meditation. One man was inspired to organize a lecture

Former President of Mozambique visits Maharishi University of Management. Joaquim Alberto Chissano, who was president of Mozambique from 1986-2005 and who introduced the Transcendental Meditation technique and Yogic Flying
to the military and brought an end to the long-standing civil war,
visited campus last month and sp...oke at a celebration honoring him.
He
is highly regarded in the international community as a statesman and
continues to work for peace in Africa. In 2007 he was named the first
recipient of the Ibrahim Prize, which is awarded to a democratically
elected former African executive head of state or government who has
served his term in office within the limits set by the country's
constitution. The award includes a $5 million prize.
President
Chissano's visit was at the invitation of student Celio Mondjane and
coincided with a business trip in Iowa. According to University
Executive Vice-President Craig Pearson, President Chissano also wanted
to reconnect with the community and to work on plans to build a
peace-creating group of Yogic Flyers in Mozambique.
While he was in office, President Chissano sponsored a group of students from Mozambique to attend Maharishi University of Management.

Maharishi Yoga course in England: Establishing the whole physiology on the level of Cosmic physiology. Fourteen
participants recently took part in a Maharishi Yoga course held in
Skelmersdale, England. The participants highly praised the depth of
knowledge and experience offered in the course, and reported benefits
such as... increased well-being, more energy, and lessening of chronic
health concerns including reduced joint pain. 'This is a
course we would like to encourage every Maharishi Invincibility Centre*
in the world to offer as soon as possible,' said Raja Peter Warburton, Raja of Invincible Great Britain for the Global Country of World Peace in a recent report.**
The Maharishi Yoga programme is one of many 'Short Courses for the
Whole Population' offered by the Global Country of World Peace,
presenting the knowledge and programmes of Maharishi Mahesh Yogi.
The aim of the Maharishi Yoga programme course is to enhance
physiological balance and mind-body coordination through simple
Maharishi Yoga programme postures (Asanas) and breathing
exercises, designed to promote mind-body integration and support
balanced good health. The course gives a comprehensive understanding of
the nature and attainment of Yoga, which is the unification of
individual and cosmic life. Participants in England praised the two Teachers of the Transcendental Meditation Programme who led the recent course over two long weekends—one a graduate of Maharishi University of Management in Fairfield, Iowa, USA with a degree in Maharishi Vedic Health Care; the other one of England's newest and youngest Transcendental Meditation Teachers. Everyone felt that the course not only profoundly enhanced the benefits of Yoga Asanas, but also deepened experiences during the practice of Transcendental Meditation and the Transcendental Meditation Sidhi Programme, said the National Director of the Global Country in Wales, who plans to lead a similar course in Cardiff in the near future. 'The course has been an unprecedented success. . . . [led] in a most relaxed, soft, and unassuming manner,' he added.

2009, a grand celebration in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, inaugurated the
new initiative of the national government to implement the Transcendental Meditation Programme in the city's public school system. The Brazilian gove...rnment was first inspired to launch this programme by the visit of Dr David Lynch, renowned filmmaker and champion of Consciousness-Based Education,
to Rio de Janeiro last year. 'This had a profound impact on authorities

Graduates of the third Maharishi Light Therapy with Gems training course in MERU, Holland, received their certificates in a ceremony on 16 October 2009.*
Participants in the course, which began 29 September, have gaine...d the
knowledge and technical training to begin giving treatments in this
therapy, one of the many modalities of Maharishi Ayur-Veda health care,
which is designed to bring a high level of orderliness to the
physiology, enlivening its innate healing intelligence. At the ceremony, Dr Walter Mölk, Deputy Minister of Health for the Global Country of World Peace, explained that Maharishi Light Therapy with Gems is one of the many modalities of Maharishi Ayur-Veda,
which has its origin in consciousness. He went on to say that 'gems are
an expression of orderliness—the most orderly creations in nature.' The
light that is shone through the gems during the therapy brings a high
level of orderliness to the physiology, enlivening the healing
intelligence of the body. Also, he said that the different gems
correspond to different frequencies of light, which in turn correlate
with different frequencies of Natural Law. The course was
conducted by Dr Joachim Roller, who developed the technology with his
wife, Dr Iris Roller, under the guidance of Maharishi Mahesh Yogi.
At the graduation, Dr Joachim Roller reflected on his original
inspiration for Maharishi Light Therapy with Gems from Maharishi. 'Over
30 years ago, I asked Maharishi what I could do with the help of gems
to enliven consciousness and increase health among people.' He

of Ayur-Veda with modern technologies, and how Maharishi advised that
