globebikes Last Night A DJ Saved My Bike

I love to provide music for group rides. One of the benefits of having a front basket is the ability to carry a portable sound system that can easily connect to an iPod. My friend Mike S. built this portable sound system out of PVC pipe, cooking pot lid, amplifier, speakers, and rechargeable batteries. As you can tell by the video, I can turn up the volume fairly high....

globebikes I Crash Ballard

With apologies to ZeroPerGallon (make us one like this pretty please?) The Globe actually has the skinniest tires I ride, and as such, I've gotten all nervous again about the train tracks I cross under the Ballard Bridge and further down the trail. The rain and wet leaf slime hasn't helped. I came across a friend last ...year just minutes after she'd landed on her front teeth after taking the tracks at the...Read More

globebikes Introducing...the Globe Live 3

I just picked up my Globe Live 3 from Mike's Bikes. It was great to see the other Live models in the store. I didn't notice any Hauls displayed but that's because one of the bike shop employees said the Haul already sold. I think these Globe bicycles will sell quickly.Below are initial photos of the bicycle....

globebikes Globe Post #8: Cider Press Bike

Sometimes, scratch that, all of the time I long for a garage. I have already been issued the edict from my loving wife – three bikes is simply too many for a 500 square foot apartment in Manhattan. The downside of getting a free bike is that I have to get rid of one of my other bikes....

globebikes The Ride: What I've Learned So Far

If you put your left foot on the left pedal first--just as one advances the left foot first in walking--you can get off to a pretty graceful start, especially after coming to a stop at an intersection. I never thought about this before when riding a bike so I thought I'd share. The "graceful start" seems nearly impossible to achieve on an incline....

globebikes Bicycle and Coffee

I'm not the biggest coffee drinker by all means but I always seem to find my way to a coffee shop. Part of the reason might be because I get a fifty dollar allowance from work every month at Starbucks. The other part is probably because there is almost always outdoor seating where I can sit, relax, and enjoy the Southern California weather with some friends in between riding....

Kaspars Balamovskis

Kaspars Balamovskis There should be option to custom build a Globe bike! The perfect bike to me would be Carmel frame and saddle (with suspension in front fork and saddle); 8 speed belt drive & hydaulic brakes like Live; fenders and rack. Come on, i know you can make it :)

globebikes My Globe Experience Story

So how did this all happen? How did I win a free bike from Globe and become one of their team of bloggers? I first found out about Globe Bikes on the Bikes for the Rest of Us blog.  I went from there to the Globe bikes website and sat drooling over the different models of bikes.  I looked at every model, but became most interested in the Live and Haul...

globebikes A short hiatus

Tomorrow I am off to India, on a much needed holiday. To be honest I cannot wait to get away from what has been a manic 6 months. I am going to be travelling around Kerala and Goa with two of my friends, Katy and Jessie. It's a 10 day trip, so I'll be back in London at the end of the month....

globebikes Globe Post #7: Top Tube Protection

Although I don’t mind scratching up my bike in the normal course of using it, I do want to avoid battering the frame over and over when locking it up. Most of the time I lock it to vertical poles and the top tube rests against the pole. To protect against abuse I like to wrap the top tube with an old inner tube....

Like, I said, my mom, my sister, the Yorkshire terrier, and I went riding. what I didn't say is that I need a Courtnee-proof camera. globebikes riding the bike, finally

The rain and wind has subsided a bit and the roads are more safe for riding this week. I met with my friend David in the Mililani High School parking lot and he gave me some pointers on adjusting the brake speeds--I think it is a case of trial and error, but it is nice to have an expert's input....

Yay Marilyn! Welcome to the Wonderful World of the Bicycle! It was very enjoyable to read of your adventures. I see you are already becoming acquainted with the status of bicycles & bicyclists in this country. That will be imprinted upon you over & over again, unfortunately. Remember though: The more people who ride bikes regularly, the more things... Read More will change for the better! =)
If you're feeling adventurous & would like to learn more about proper riding techniques in all conditions, may I recommend the book: "Effective Cycling" by John Forrester?
It was the very first book I got when I was learning to ride. Mr. Forrester was a traffic engineer & board member of the League of American Wheelmen (now known as the League of American Bicyclists), so he speaks with authority. Although the book is generally considered to be a bit opinionated & is a little out of date (published in the 1980's), it still never-the-less contains a wealth of good & practical information for any cyclist who rides on the road. Bon Vivre!

I must have only posted this on my other blog: I've moved. I haven't been able to get to the Internet much because we cut off our landline as one of the first orders of business and went into cells-only mode.
