We were fortunate enough to get a Google Wave invite yesterday. And, we have so few friends that were interested in Wave we didn’t give all our “nominations” (read invites) away yet.

I recently wrote an article about letting seminary change you doctrinally. In it, I laid out some broad ideas of Truth, doctrine, and how the seminarian needs to treat these things in order to get the most out of their seminary education. ...

Well, I feel it is only appropriate to start with Twitter. You are obviously a fan (Follow him here). Whenever you’re teaching a seminary class, does it bother you that on one of those laptops in the room, someone is likely tweeting or on Facebook?

“I knew perfectly well at that time, as I had for years and years, that the Lord absolutely transcends any understanding I have of Him, which makes loyalty to Him a different thing from loyalty to whatever customs and doctrines and memories I happen to associate with Him.”

As seminary students, we realize a mantra that matters much in church life is “IN ESSENTIALS UNITY, IN NON-ESSENTIALS LIBERTY, IN ALL THINGS CHARITY.” We believe this and know this to be true. ...

One of my big beefs about Seminary is that you can spend a lot of time and money going to seminary and then find out that it is not your calling for ministry, or the denomination that you wish to become a part, you fail the trials for preaching and ordination.
Somehow there needs to be a vetting process where the gifts... and calling are somewhat determined. I know it is not a guaranteed thing, but at least you will not be putting someone through school that would be better of somewhere else. I beleive that there are pastors out in the field that may not even have the calling, but just the education and they seem to do well in leadership but have no business in the pastorate.
They run the church like a business and fail to preach the Gospel.
Are seminaries run like businesses? do they accept people because they have a bachelors and a source of funds available?
Maybe this is just a stupid rant, but i can see how a lot of ministers fail in their first five years being in the pastorateRead More
