Canada has never had an environment minister. It is just a 'file' to the to be managed. I have seen politicians come and go (from all political stripes) for the last 20 years with no real positive change. There has never been any political will to tackle the tar sands. We should nationalize our resource base and re-invest into a more sustainable economy:

Unfortunately, this is all too common. Canada gets away with far too much when it comes to resources extraction and waste management (at home, and abroad). The Tar Sands, Shell Oil In Nigeria, The Export of Asbestos, Uranium Mining, Waste Management Practices, Abuse of Natives and Their Land, Canadian Operations Abroad (Recent killings linked to Canadian-owned nickel mine in Guatemala), The Terrorization of Dissent, All Shameful:

Sri Pada: Sri Pada is a sacred site that has transcended boundaries between Sri Lanka's different religions. During the pilgrimage season, young and old, Buddhist, Muslim, Hindu and Christian alike, all climb the steep, graceful mountain trail leading towards the summit, popularly known in English as Adam's Peak, the f...ourth highest peak in Sri Lanka. However, the altitude is no damper to the thousands of pilgrims who climb the mountain in endless procession from December to May.
Garbage on Sri Pada has been a festering problem for many years now. Polythene and plastic odds and ends disposed of by visitors litter the mountain all the way, posing a long term threat to Peak Wilderness, one of the country’s pristine ecosystems ...
