I attended the Copenhagen climate conference as the Hopenhagen Ambassador, tasked with the responsibility of "spreading hope." Unfortunately, the mood in Copenhagen was more frustration than optimism, and most people claimed some level of disappointment when the talks ended.

The Copenhagen Accord was a deal and not a deal, and its real implications remain uncertain. Nonetheless, thanks to fly-on-the-wall accounts by participants like Ed Milliband and Mark Lynas ('How do I know China wrecked the Copenhagen deal? I

See, in China, lobbying the government to change gets you a life sentence. Blaming China is a PR move, and it's arrogant.

I won’t miss being pregnant, but I will miss this often unspoken sense of community and fellowship that comes with an absurdly inflated belly.

i think it's very sad that she had to have a baby, or snow even, to experience this. in fact, i don't think it was these things at all that made this happen in her life - i think she made a change herself.

here's to ppl making these changes on their own instead of extrapolating them on events.

Personally, I loved being pregnant, all three times. I have never felt so purposeful as then!

Half a dozen Senate moderates urge the W.H. to give up for now on efforts to pass a cap-and-trade bill.
John Knettles

The time for cap and trade was 20 years ago. The only thing that will change behavior is a carbon tax with the proceeds invested in clean technology development. And that's about as likely to pass the US Senate as a single-payer health care system. Get ready for a warmer world.

Cap and trade worked remarkably well for SO2 but it's hard to envision a scenario where this Congress doesn't make a total hash of it this time around. I hope the Obama folks are starting to think about a Plan B that has EPA regulating carbon and leaves this dysfunctional Congress out of it altogether.

Yes, better to say carbon dividend. If you mention the word "tax", it is as good as dead in the US congress.

Rebate would reward those who make low-carbon lifestyle choices for sustainability. The fees would make stuff that wastes more, cost more (OK with me). Some taxes are a necessary part of having a government that works. Plenty of jobs will be had in a sustainable economy, doing things that don't undercut our long term survival. It's the fear of change that is paralyzing the pols. Humans daily are changing the planet for good or ill.

Thanks for posting this, it made me aware of the Blue/Green alliance. Very interesting. I look forward to organized labor showing the same initiative in Canada.
