First off, I applaud this group. This is the 1st group in about 30 I have looked at that did not bash Food Assistance or have a negative vibe. Food Stamps is a Federal program with a variety of rules. It is not "welfare" and it is not designed to fulfill all of a family's nutritional needs. It is designed to be a supplement to the family.
In 2000 I started as a Medi-Cal (CA version of Medicaid) and Food Stamp eligibility worker. Now I train new eligibility workers for the Medi-Cal, Food Assistance (they are no longer stamps), CalWORKs (aka: TANF, AFDC, cash asistance). In my county we do not use the word "welfare". We strive to increase the knowledge about these programs, particularly Food Assistance.
Student eligibility is not difficult, but sometimes it appears unfair. If anyone has any questions, please post or send me a note here on FB. To the critics: We are all a paycheck or two away from needing assistance, what if it happens to you?

I recently applied for food stamps because I am in a terrible financial bind ... my family despises me for it. "In this house we work for everything we get." well.. I am working as hard as I can, and my family is NOT helping me with college.. and money is going out much faster than it is coming in. So I think I made a good decision..

I was at a party last night, I said at MIdnight I was gonna call my Link, make sure my stuff was on there cuz w the Holidays ...we are broke, and we aint got nothing to eat. I ate a sandwich with the Butt of the bread this morning, yeah its that bad. This fat girl just did not get it she kept sayin "for real? you have a Link card? are you serious? " HELL YEAH B-yotch. She looked at me w awe...(she looked like she was not starving so I am sure she dont have one)..I am a nursing student I graduate in MAY 16th Gotta do what ya gotta do, I got 3 grown teenagers....they stay hungry!
I just hate the way ppl in the store get all in your grill when your payin for your stuff, and make noises and look all in your stuff llike...."She's buying OJ and Ground Chicken with her food stamps.." Shit it aint Lobster......

I read about this in the Miami Herald and was interested bc between school and everything else... money is tight. Anyone know exactly how to actually get these food stamps. All the article says is to get in touch with this group. How do I actually apply?
