Description:
The Canadian Flowers for Food Society (F4FS) is a registered BC Society (Business Number: 84141 0756 RC001) collecting floral waste from major flower growers and distributors throughout Greater Vancouver.

The F4FS is now in its second year delivering these flowers to other charitable programs, services, and homeless persons who in turn use them on the streets in exchange for monetary donations to eat and live.

Flowers for Food was established in Vancouver, BC, Canada in the summer of 2006.

The Flowers for Food Composting (F4FC) project is phase two of this non-profit venture designed to immediately divert floral (organic) waste from GVRD landfills to composting stations, employing homeless persons of Greater Vancouver with day jobs while producing a viable nutrient-rich compost product that can be sold within 4 to 6 months to further reduce the impacts of homelessness.

The Canadian Flowers for Food Society appreciates (and applauds) the donors from the floral industry, and their willingness to participate in this innovative project designed to safely provide economically sound, sensible, and socially inclusive solutions to a growing problem that affects all of us.

The F4FC project provides immediate and direct benefits to several local charities and homeless people, in addition to numerous positive economic and environmental impacts, including:

1. Reducing greenhouse gases contributing to global warming;

2. Providing opportunities to empower, feed, and care for homeless people;

3. Producing a viable, nutrient-rich compost product, to be sold to the GVRD and its municipalities for both commercial and private use, in support of charities and homeless people.

Compost is a safe substitute for chemical fertilizers and adds nutrients, texture, and porosity to existing soils while accelerating root growth, increasing aeration, improving moisture retention and water absorption. Nitrogen-rich compost also reduces soil compaction and erosion.

Please read more on the Flowers for Food Compost Project and tell someone at any level of government that you support Flowers for Food. Then drop us a line from contact us and share this site with someone you know.

The Canadian Flowers for Food Society Invites Mayor Ladner to an Evening of Art Gala Benefiting Vancouver’s Homeless People

Vancouver, B.C. – This Friday morning at about 12 noon members and clients of the Canadian Flowers for Food Society (CFFFS) plan to deliver invitations to its first Evening of Art Gala to Vancouver Mayor Peter Ladner and city elected officials. The CFFFS and clients will also be handing out flowers in exchange for donations in front of city hall from approximately 11:30 AM to 1:00 PM.

“The Canadian Flowers for Food Society provides opportunities and support for recovering, homeless, and marginalized people in Metro Vancouver, said society founder Marrett Green. And this Art Gala exemplifies our philosophy of the Beauty of Giving in Bloom through flowers while showcasing the immense talent of our local artists.”

The 1st Annual Evening of Art Gala is scheduled for Saturday, July 19, 2008 at the Gallery Gachet, 88 Cordova Street, Vancouver BC. The evening’s entertainment will include a silent auction for a floral artwork valued at $4,000.00 created and donated by Ms. Kimberly Swain; as well as live entertainment; a fully licensed bar, and door prizes.

The Canadian Flowers for Food Society collects floral waste from major flower growers and distributors to give them to homeless persons and other marginalized groups to generate revenue for better living addressing homelessness and environmental stewardship.

“The prevalence of drugs in our underprivileged communities is just as obvious as the absence of opportunities for those who are battling to regain their lives after suffering from mental affliction or drug addiction,” said Green. “It is our goal to work with the City in the pursuit of developing opportunities for the rising number of homeless people in Vancouver.”

Doors to the Canadian Flowers for Food Evening of Art Gala open at 7pm and appetizers 8 pm. Tickets are $50 each, or corporate packages are $450 for 10 tickets. For more information, please go to www.flowersforfood.ca.

Tj is an amazing person whom has touched my heart !!!! I greatly admire his strength and perseverance ! TJ is out there rain or shine, wind or snow !!!! I have never had the chance to actually stop till today and personally meet TJ , seeing as I hardly ever have cash on me ! I have gone to get cash and come back to buy flowers from TJ but he's either moved locations or sold out once I get back !!!! Today I was able to get some flowers and hopefully help TJ ! TJ even gave my step son Austin some toys ! Here is someone who is not the most fortunate giving, truly giving whole heartedly ! We all spend money eating out, on coffee, on impulse buys, or things that at times are just a waste completally and we don't think twice about it ! If we all only bought flowers from someone like TJ once or twice a month and ate out once or twice less a month we could truly all make a difference in someone like TJ'S life ! What you put out into the universe you get back from the universe !
Love Tammy

DEFEATING HUNGER ONE FLORAL BOUQUET AT A TIME

A bouquet of flowers can brighten the average ho-hum day in the office and can also help feed the hungry, thanks to a local volunteer-run charity. The Canadian Flowers for Food Society (CFFFS) is bringing local businesses and marginalized groups together through the beauty of giving in bloom.

(CFFFS) provides opportunity for marginalized groups, such as senior citizens in fixed income, to create floral arrangements at their residence to deliver to businesses throughout Metro Vancouver for a one-time, weekly, or monthly donation as part of their Office Floral Outreach Program.

All monetary donations go directly to CFFFS clients, who can then use the money for better living including medications, groceries, shelter, and clothes.
