Since 1986, the Boston University Community Service Center has provided students, faculty, staff and alumni with thousands of volunteers opportunities to address the critical concerns of the community in a meaningful and mutually beneficial way.
The opportunities provided serve as a vehicle for empowerment and provide potential for growth and leadership, encouraging active and responsible membership in the community. The Community Service Center, as an integral part of the University community, broadens the scope of the educational experience through service and reflection.
The Community Service Center has 13 student-run programs, with over 1500 placed volunteers throughout the year, including winter, spring and summer breaks. Semester opportunities include youth tutoring, youth recreational programs, delivering meals to homebound people with AIDS, salvaging food for shelters, teaching English as a Second Lanuage (ESL) classes, or bringing the world of music to students at a local elementary school. Winter, spring and summer break opportunities include community service trips to various states and a community service orientation for first-year students.
The Community Service Center has no political or religious affiliation. All aspects of the organization encourage and value diversity.
