The Walker Art Gallery in Liverpool has one of the most impressive collections of fine and decorative art in Europe and is renowned for the depth of its Renaissance and Pre-Raphaelite collections. Other highlights include a spectacular sculpture gallery, a dedicated craft and design section and a welcoming café in artistic surroundings.
The Walker's contemporary collection spans the full range of 20th century art and beyond. Impressionism, post-impressionism, symbolism and Camden Town are all represented with household names such as Lucian Freud, Henry Moore, Harold Gilman and LS Lowry.
The Walker is also home to the UK's best-known painting prize, the John Moores Contemporary Painting Competition, which forms a major strand of Liverpool Biennial. Past winners include David Hockney, Lisa Milroy and Peter Doig.
