The University of Wisconsin-Madison School of Education consistently ranks among the top schools of education in the nation. The University has offered teacher education since its founding in 1848. The School of Education was formally established as a distinct unit in 1930.
The School currently consists of eight academic departments, and is the third largest school/college at UW-Madison. U.S. News & World Report consistently rates the School's core graduate programs among the very best in the nation.
Julie K. Underwood became the School’s eighth dean in August 2005. Adam Gamoran served as the School's interim dean January-July 2009, while Underwood served as interim provost of UW-Madison. Underwood was welcomed back as dean on July 15.
